XMOR® BHB50 bucket supports savings on downtime and cycle times at Price Quarry, Australia

Adbri’s Price Quarry provides sand and other materials used by Adbri to supply pre-mix concrete across Australia. Adbri Quarry Operations Manager for South Australia, Adam Schutz, was interviewed by Quarry Magazine in an article dated March 4, 2025, about his experience with an XMOR^® BHB50 bucket.

Price Quarry has to remove between 5 to 15 meters of overburden before they can screen sand. This has long presented a problem as the site is quite large. Traditionally, the site has stocked two buckets for every excavator:

• A “mud” bucket with higher volume to move the sand
• A “tooth” bucket with less capacity to handle the overburden
  
  

This meant that the machine had to be stopped whenever it was moved to a different section of the pit to swap the buckets. Since the buckets were showing signs of age, the site was open to considering new solutions.

Price Quarry was initially skeptical about the uniquely shaped XMOR^® bucket suggested by OnTrac Group. However, the potential to transition to a single-bucket solution was attractive.

Once they used the XMOR^® BHB50 bucket, Adbri Quarry Manager Nicholas Pridham said: “The ease of how it digs through the sand was surprising, it’s like cutting through butter. There’s a lot less drag, and it’s easier to dig with.”

The extra capacity has also meant we’re doing fewer passes per truck load, cutting the cycle time. Shifting more material with every bucket load means you’re getting more work done in a faster time span too. You notice that you’re shifting a little more material every time.”

As a result, Adam Schutz stated, “One bucket is saving a lot. The Price site is located 90 minutes from Adelaide, so any extra savings we can get is a big win for the business.”

Price Quarry is saving on downtime and cycle times, finding it easier to operate, and moving more material efficiently.
