Milbrae Quarry in Australia saves on maintenance and fuel with XMOR® BHB50

Operation: Rock, sand, and gravel quarry
Excavator: Volvo EC480E
Bucket: XMOR® BHB50 3.3 m3
Benefits: High capacity, less maintenance, 18% better fuel efficiency

Milbrae Quarry is a rock, sand, and gravel quarry based in Australia. When purchasing a new Volvo EC480E, the site required a high-volume bucket to increase production.

The Volvo EC480E was delivered with the XMOR® BHB50 bucket in July 2022. Initially, the site raised concerns about the angle of the teeth and the wear plate design of the bucket.

However, since the XMOR® BHB50 bucket offered an impressive 3.3 m³ capacity, the site decided it offered a return on investment that made it worth trying.

1,240 hours later, all is good

Rowan Dobie, the Mobile Crusher Manager at Milbrae Quarries, gave extremely positive feedback from when the bucket had accumulated 1,240 operational hours.

The site had long experienced high material wear due to the aggressive nature of the excavated rock. In his feedback, Rowan Dobie stated that their initial concerns were quickly proven to be unfounded, and the XMOR® bucket had performed very well.

The site operators praised the reduced drag and improved cycle times due to the tapered design and fast fill rates of the XMOR® BHB50 bucket. This improved efficiency was directly reflected in the increased production volumes achieved.

Less unplanned downtime and better fuel efficiency

During this time, only three of the twelve bolt-on Heel Segments had been replaced due to wear. In comparison to other buckets used on the site, they had not seen any wear plate losses, thus reducing unplanned maintenance stoppages.

In addition to product reliability, Rowan Dobie commented that they had seen a significant improvement in fuel efficiency, with the machine running at an average of 18.9 liters per hour. That is approximately 18% more efficient than other similar machines on site running with traditional design buckets.

“This made the bucket a valuable asset to the mobile crushing team, and they are extremely satisfied with its performance,”
Rowan Dobie concludes.
