Moving dirt faster means customer satisfaction for NW Construction in USA

NW Construction meets demanding deadline with the help of XMOR® buckets

Operation: Moving dirt for dam construction
Excavator: CAT and Komatsu
Bucket: XMOR® buckets of varying sizes
Benefits: Higher productivity

NW Construction has a large earthmoving contract for a major dam project in Northern California, USA. This means that the company has a short time frame to move large amounts of dirt in order to meet a very demanding deadline. The site runs a fleet that includes CAT 6015Bs, CAT 374s, CAT 395s, and Komatsu PC1250s.

The site has converted much of the fleet to XMOR® buckets and is currently planning to procure more XMOR® buckets for the remainder of the machines. This case focuses particularly on the CAT 395 with an XMOR® BHB80 9.2 m3 (12 yd3) bucket.

8% higher capacity by upgrading from standard to XMOR® bucket

A typical CAT 395 standard bucket has a volume of around 8.5 m3 (11 yd3).
With the desire to increase the volumes and load their CAT 775 haul trucks faster, NW Construction first tried the XMOR® BHB80 bucket, which offers 9.2 m3 (12 yd3), to assess the stability of the machine with such an increased payload.

The site now fills the CAT 775 trucks in only four passes, and the operators report that the machine feels as stable as it did with the traditional but smaller bucket. This positive result means that NW Construction will meet the deadline by converting the fleet to XMOR® High-Capacity Buckets.
